Mtunzini Group is a family-run, PSiRA-registered security company based in Woodstock, Cape Town. Since 2010, we have protected homes and businesses across the city with vetted officers, active field management and a straightforward approach to compliance: no shortcuts, no unregistered guards, no surprises.
Led by our founder
Derrick Kinder
Founder, Mtunzini Group
Derrick began his public service career with the South African Police in 1991. He trained at Bishop Lavis Police Training Academy before joining Johannesburg Central Police Station.
He served in the detective branch and completed tactical and investigation courses covering high-risk criminal threats.
In 2002, Derrick entered the private security industry and established Derrick Kinder Group Security. This marked the beginning of his private security career before establishing Mtunzini Group in 2010.
Derrick brings over 30 years of operational experience across policing, security management and consulting. His background includes investigations and risk management, backed by a Diploma in Risk Management.

What "Mtunzini" means
Mtunzini takes its name from the isiZulu eMthunzini, from umthunzi, meaning shade or shelter. It is also the name of a coastal town in KwaZulu-Natal. For a security company, the meaning fits the work: providing shelter and cover for the homes, businesses and people we protect.
